Do you know that drug companies buy data about the types of prescriptions specific doctors are prescribing so that drug representatives may target their sales?

Do you suspect that information about your prescription use has been sold?

The sale of prescription information linked to either patients or doctors increases the cost of health care by making it easier for pharmaceutical companies to directly market their most expensive drugs, thus driving expenditures for consumers and the state. Prohibiting it will allow prescribing decisions to be made solely on the best interest of patients and will help stem the ever-increasing cost of prescription drugs.

AARP is seeking members to share their experiences about so-called "data mining." On March 11th, state representatives and state senators will conduct a public hearing on bills that seek to prohibit this type of sale.

If you are willing to testify before the Massachusetts Legislature on March 11th at 12 Noon in Boston, please contact Jessica Costantino at jcostantino@aarp.org.

Sincerely,

AARP Massachusetts
