After reading about the Cub Scout I started to think about what solicitation meant to our community. Well, I can tell you I don't want the Fuller Brush man knocking at my door, don't want some religious group knocking at my door telling me to join their church. I don't want anyone coming to sell me new windows and doors, or blinds. BUT, if my neighbors grandson was down visiting and put on his Cub Scout uniform and came to my door with his smiling Nana and did his little talk about selling his popcorn I would either buy it or if I didn't want it I would tell him in a very nice way I didn't want the popcorn. Most likely I would have bought it whether I wanted it or not. I wouldn't feel pressured by the situation either. I don't think I would make him feel bad and don't think for one minute that this little boy didn't feel bad about what he thought was a good deed.
The thing that gets me the most about this situation is that this woman thought it was necessary to call F&B to report this incident. Give me a break it was a members Grandchild and I doubt they were going to hit all 1100 units in Countryside. Maybe a few houses or condos just to let him think he did a wonderful thing. I'm sure some will say if we let one then we will have to let them all do it. I doubt that will happen. A little kindness goes along way. Don't think this little boy will forget this because he won't. Think back to when you were young and some grouchy old person made you feel bad did you forget it. I doubt it. Sure glad it wasn't my grandchild this happened to. To any of my neighbors reading this if your Grand kids are visiting and come to my door selling something don't worry I won't call the office.---------Laureen Quinlan
