I have a very simple solution to this mail box issue which is causing such a ruckus at present. Simply set a date whereby all homeowners can meet at the clubhouse and discuss this issue in a reasonable and calm manner. Those that want the new mailboxes can state their case and those that wish to continue with what we have could state theirs. When all discussion is over, WE VOTE. If the majority vote in favor of new mail boxes, we ALL install them within a time frame decided by the majority of homeowners. If the majority votes to leave the mailboxes as they are at present, then they stay just as they are. And while all homeowners are present, we just might be able to decide just what plants, flowers, flags, etc., can be placed around and on the mailboxes themselves.
Now isn't that a simple way to solve this problem? It's called democracy. Majority rules. Had this happened in the first place, three mailings from the office could have been avoided, (maybe the money saved there could have helped reduce the drink prices at the club - but that is an issue for another day), certain board members could have avoided the embarrassment of having to acknowledge they either had not read or had misunderstood letters that had been sent out on this mailbox issue. At what point will board members understand that we are a reasonable community of people who can listen to issues and come up with reasonable solutions. It is asking too much that a meeting of homeowners be held to come to a solution to this issue. As a previous writer has stated "this issue has pitted neighbor against neighbor" and that is just not right. Lets do it the democratic way -- Majority Rules!!!!
